15 August 2003 No. 25From Head of the Junior SchoolCongratulations are extended to the Year Five and Six footballers that had a very successful, but more importantly, an enjoyable outing on the MCG last Friday. Playing at half time of the Cordner/Eggleston Cup, the boys were great ambassadors for the school and themselves, winning more games than they lost. The boys received a great thrill forming a tunnel for the "firsts" to run through at the end of half time and at the start of the third quarter. This support was acknowledged by the senior boys via a thank you card autographed by each member of the successful Scotch team. Many thanks are extended to those families who were able to share this special occasion and I know that for the boys (and some staff!) for whom this was their first step onto the hallowed turf, that this will be remembered for many years to come. Congratulations are extended to the first eighteen for once again, retaining the Cordner/Eggleston Cup. Well played, Scotch! Congratulations are also extended to the many boys who performed in the two music concerts held this week, in the Memorial Hall. On Wednesday, our string players participated in the annual Strings Concert and then on Thursday, brass, percussion and woodwind players participated in the Bands Concert. Both nights presented groups across the school, displaying varying standards and this was a wonderful opportunity for the younger boys to experience the possibilities in the future. Many thanks to the music staff for their on-going support, encouragement and efforts with the variety of music programs presented to the boys of the College. We have had no theme running this week, but I do however leave you with the following as my thought for the week….. If you fill your heart with regrets of yesterday and the worries of tomorrow, Guy B Mason Junior PrimaryHead LiceAnother incidence of lice has been reported to us. Please be aware of this and treat your child if necessary. We appreciate being notified of each occurrence so other families can be vigilant in checking their boys. As I have mentioned previously, an interesting and informative web site regarding Head Lice, the treatment of it and reasons for the re-occurrence can be found at http://www.jcu.edu.au/school/phtm/PHTM/hlice/hlinfo1.htm. Associate Professor Rick Speare, from James Cook University and the Department of Public Health, is regarded as an authority on the subject and provides detailed information on this site.
