Drama

Staff:

The Scotch College Junior School Drama program is one that promotes creativity, free expression, a positive learning environment and a deep understanding of Drama skills, styles and practitioners. It is an integral part of our curriculum because not only are our boys given the opportunity to explore their artistic ability through creative performance, they are on an everyday basis, developing potent personal and interpersonal life skills.

This can include social, physical and emotional expression; communication skills: verbal and non-verbal; problem solving, brainstorming and planning; quick thinking, improvisation and performance; and importantly, trust, self-belief and confidence.

In Drama, boys continue to learn about what makes a positive and productive group dynamic, and work within it to ‘make drama’. Students enter in group discussion and planning and through sharing ideas, negotiating roles, responding to time limits and, setting and achieving goals, they regularly create and make performance. Largely, classes result in a sharing of work followed by a sharing of reflection: from teacher, peers and self.
