From the President - November 2004
Another big month at Scotch
The Annual General Meeting of the Scotch Parents’ Association was held on Monday 8 November 2004, when I officially finished my term as President.
Principal Dr Gordon Donaldson summed up some of the highlights of the year at Scotch and paid tribute to Staff members who are either retiring or moving on to other schools or organisations.
Coach of Scotch’s 1st VIII rowing crew Jeff Watt was guest speaker at the AGM and gave some interesting and entertaining insights into the challenges of coaching schoolboys. Having won four Head of the River titles, it’s clear that Jeff has obviously mastered those challenges!
Congratulations to Sarah Bernard (pictured) who has been elected President for 2005 and Stephen Grover and Ros Franet, elected Vice President and Junior Vice President respectively. I wish Sarah and her committee all the best for 2005.
Thanks to all the parents who have helped the Scotch Parents’ Association this year. It is the involvement of the parents that enriches the entire Scotch Family.
The Class Representatives have done a wonderful job organising class functions and the Auxiliaries and Support Groups have been involved in a wide range of successful and innovative activities.
Special thanks go to Helen Eva, editor of this newsletter. She has done an outstanding job and thanks must also go to Nada Peacock in the Publications Office. It is astounding the amount of publications required by a school the size of Scotch.
The Scotch College Cadet Tattoo was a moving occasion for all present on Friday, 12 November. Congratulations to LTCOL (ACC) P A (Tony) Glover and his Cadet support staff on organising such a memorable evening.
The Inaugural Scotch College Fine Art Exhibition and Auction held at the Hawthorn Town Hall on 12¬14 November was a great success. There was some wonderful artwork displayed and sold.
Thanks to all involved with this event. The Scotch Family Carol Service will be held in the Memorial Hall on Monday, 6 December 2004 from 7.45pm to 8.45pm. Bring all the family for what should be a great occasion, with the added attraction of the new organ.
Finally, best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy Christmas period.
