1st XVIII Captain Hamish Dick |
The Annual 1858 Club Breakfast at the Sofitel Hotel was again an outstanding success. Over 450 people were in attendance to listen to ABC Sport legend Tim Lane discuss the state of Australian Rules Football in a very frank and open manner.
Bruce Brown delivered an informative insight into the origins of the game and talked about Old Boy Doug Heywood ('42) who was one of Tim's colleagues at the ABC. Sadly Doug passed away last year. Graham 'Smokey' Dawson was the lively MC for the morning and interviewed the respective football captains (Hamish Dick , Scotch and Jeremy Beaumont, MGS) and then provided the guests with an entertaining phantom call of the closing minutes of the 2003 Cordner-Eggleston Cup which was to be played the next day.
Fortunately Smokey's prediction of a draw was to be proved incorrect at the MCG the next day, where Scotch held on to defeat MGS by 14 points.
Back Row: Cam Smith, Micheal Leeds, Nick Leitl and Steve Collins.
Front Row: Stuart Gibbs, Tim Holt, Rick Western and Steve Hume.
