James Forbes Academy Fund

When the campaign for The James Forbes Academy closes in March next year, two years after it was launched, construction of phase one of the Academy, the Music School, will be well advanced.

This is without a doubt one of the most exciting and ambitious building projects ever undertaken by an Australian school. With the monumental task of raising $7.0 million in gift pledges towards it, the Foundation is delighted to report that over $6.7 million has already been pledged, including $320,000 in support of the George Logie-Smith Endowment. We are almost there!

To date over 400 people have supported the campaign directly, and this does not include the indirect support given by 1180 Old Boys and parents, through the Annual Fund. Gifts ranged from $25 to $1.0 million.

Significantly fewer than half of the remaining practice rooms and performance spaces in the Music School and School for Drama are yet to be named. The naming of seats in the two auditoria is also proving popular, with almost half of those available named already.

Some people have even requested a particular seat or seats - "Can I please have seats 10 and 11 in row C? These are the dates of birth of our sons."

Campaign Chairman, Campbell McComas, was thrilled when he was informed that a prominent Melbourne legal firm wished to honour a former partner and Old Boy, by having a seat in the Academy named after him.

This year's Year 12 boys, the Class of 2000, have raised over $15,000, which will go towards a special mosaic for the entrance foyer of the Academy.

In the closing stages of the Campaign, as you are thinking about your support, you might like to contact Peter Crook or Margaret Long on 9810 4300. They will certainly provide you with the information needed to make a decision.
