Junior School Peoplescape Installation

Peoplescape

This year each Year 6 boy painted 'a hero' or 'famous person', as part of their Study of Society and Art integrated project. The boys painted a life-size wooden shape with symbols, sketches and logos, images and text; all representing the many facets of their hero's life. The collection included scientists, military heroes, adventurers, sportspeople, doctors, politicians, entertainers, artists, writers and teachers. For example, Christoper Totterdell interpreted the work of Albert Einstein. This collection of artwork formed the Junior School Peoplescape Installation for 2002. This Scotch College Junior Visual Arts Installation project was modelled on the Australian Centenary of Federation Peoplescape Installation, in which the Junior School participated during last November 2001 in Parliament House Canberra - with old boy Dr Hugh Taylor AO. The Ken Field Memorial Trust generously supported this year's special Junior School Visual Arts project.

The 'Heroes' Peoplescape Installation was displayed in the Junior School courtyard for one week in Term 3 for Junior School students and parents. Later it was installed again during Family Athletics Day, near the athletics. Both installations created a great deal of interest, as people wanted to look at all these 'people' standing around; some in rows, but some not - some images immediately obvious, with others not so well-known.

Life in the Junior school is becoming busier and busier for the current Year Six students.

Apart from their impressive Mathematics and English Competition results this year they have found time to become fully immersed in a number of other interesting and challenging activities.

DChristopher Totterdelluring the fourth term of this year all students studied a unit of work based on Countries Beyond Australia. All boys have completed a series of tasks which have been based on a country of their choice.

These have included a postcard, newspaper article, map, travel brochure, flag and menu.

The World Expo Day was held on 2 December and provided the Year Six boys an opportunity to showcase their learning to all Junior School students and staff, along with many parents and grandparents. Boys have also participated in the ongoing Year Six Debating, Bridge building, cooking, cross-age, Year 7 Transition and Robotics programmes.

They have even found time to complete some of their academic studies as well!
