Jeremy Welsh visits Scotch College

Jeremy Welsh and Tim Shearer

It was great to welcome Jeremy Welsh to the school on Saturday 16 November. Jeremy's grandmother is Anne Trimmer, who lit the torch at the Leochel Cushnie Church with the then President of OSCA, Michael Stillwell, in 2000 to get our 150 Year celebrations underway.

The December 2000 edition of Great Scot reported "On 1 October 2000, Mrs A G Trimmer, a descendant of the family of James Forbes, kindled a torch here to commemorate the life and work of this Presbyterian minister and educator. From this location the torch traced Forbes's journey to Australia, to commence the celebration of the founding

of Scotch College 150 years ago." Anne Trimmer is the great granddaughter of William Forbes, who was the brother of the School's founder James Forbes. Anne's mother was a nurse and met her husband-to-be at the Royal Devonshire Hospital in Buxton, Derbyshire, when he was convalescing after being wounded in Gallipoli in 1915. The outstanding care he received enabled him to recover in time to serve on the Somme campaign in 1916.

Jeremy was very impressed with the School and its facilities and likened it to his education in England. He was particularly impressed with "The James Forbes Academy" and thought it was an outstanding tribute to his ancestor. Jeremy works in Sydney as an Assistant Manager with KPMG.
