Teacher in Charge: Mr Rob
HortinAs season 2011 approaches Scotch Basketball is proud to announce its coaching staff. Director of Coaching, Lukas Carey, who returns for season number 6 at the helm of Scotch Basketball, is excited to return after the schools overall most successful season in their time in the competition (greater win % over the program than ever before).
Head Coach of the Scotch firsts is the experienced and respected Randy Shanklin. Randy returns to us from the US and brings not only a wealth of experience but a level of energy and excitement that will steer the program forward again.
Heading up the seconds for season 2011 is one of the newer Scotch Coaches, Kelvin Bowers. Kelvin coached in the junior teams successfully last season and makes the step up to replace Andrew Harms who has taken up full time employment. Kelvin is a gentle giant who expects a lot from his charges, a better person to develop our future firsts you will not find.
Kevin Nolan returns to Scotch for season 2011 and moves up to the Year 10 area. ‘Coach K’ comes with a vast background of ITC, SEABL and NBL coaching experience and is by far one of the most experienced coaches at Scotch.
New to the Scotch College Coaching ranks this season is Brett Spicer. Brett has a long and distinct coaching background at the Big V, SEABL and championship level. He is a renowned defensive coach who excels at developing the individual skills of his charges.
The hotly sought after year 8 Head Coaching position has been granted to Rick Marcenko who returns to Scotch after a very successful season last year. His energy and the automatic respect he demands makes playing in his team not only fun, but very rewarding.
The Year 7 program takes a very different look for 2011. Michael Jones will be heading up the program and will take responsibility for the recruitment and development of our next crop of stars. Having a long coaching background at club and school level Michael shows us the importance of staff involvement in the basketball program, something Scotch does better than any other APS school.
Other external coaches that have been appointed for season 2011 are as follows:
Matt Danos / Patrick Dower (Year 10)
Dan Nelson / Alex Linoseur (Year 9)
Charlie Hancock / Oresti Nitsios (Year 8)
Dean Kuran / Will Huggett / Alex Van Ryn (Year 7)
This year also sees a great collection of current Scotch teachers taking the reigns as coaches and managers. Mark Mason, Renee Hill, Neale Peters, Jeff Watson, David Assander, Lloyd Johnson, Vera Bifano, Durga Kumante, Donna Del Porto and Keith Oatley finalize the coaching roster for this upcoming season
The 2011 season already looks exciting with a coaching staff the envy of many APS schools as well as a great burst of energy and leadership provided by the supportive parents group ‘The Slam Dunk Club’. The group assists the basketball program in doing the little things we need to be as good as we can be. They are always looking for new members and if you would like to be involved please feel free to contact me and I will steer you in the correct direction.
Our training times are in the process of being confirmed and will be printed officially very shortly. However, if anyone has any questions regarding the program please feel free to contact me via email at careyss@westnet.com.au
Yours truly,
Lukas Carey
