Enquiries and donations are very welcome. Advance notice of visits is not necessary but is advisable. Proof of identity may be required from persons unconnected with the school.

Acquisition focus:

The history and heritage of Scotch College, embracing its:

  • individuals (students, staff and benefactors),
  • activities (academic, sporting, cultural, hobbies, …),
  • symbols and traditions.

Major holdings:

  • Scotch College: computer database of all students and staff 1851-.
  • Scotch College: records 1857-; publications 1857-; photographs c1870-;
  • educational material 1857-. Much of this material is uncatalogued.

We seek

  • records and reminiscences of the school;
  • the Life Story of every student (with photos as boy and man), and of every staff member and benefactor (with photos);
  • textbooks, classroom notes and exercise books, assessments, exam papers, reports;
  • school circulars (the more scrappy it is the more likely to be the only copy left);
  • records and memories of every kind of activity, official and unofficial;
  • back copies of Satura and of the yellow news-sheets that went to parents from the early 1970s onwards;
  • boarders' letters home;
  • schoolboy diaries;
  • physical items of all kinds (anything made or used at or by the school, anything worn at the school---though not blazers or caps---);
  • photographs, films, etc.;
  • sound recordings;
  • boyhood items of all kinds, even if unconnected to the school.

Deepening Roar

Dr Jim Mitchell is the author of ‘A Deepening Roar’, a history of Scotch College, 1851 to 2001, published as part of the celebrations to mark the College’s 150th year celebrations. The history was launched on 10 October 2001 by Sir Zelman Cowen.
