The 1858 Football Club was formed in 1997 to support the development of football at Scotch College. The club was named to commemorate the first recorded game of Australian Rules football, which was played at what is now the Melbourne Cricket Ground, between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar.
• Annual sponsorship of pre season training camps for all Year Levels
• Support of the Schools biennial development squad tours to Darwin and the Tiwi Islands
• Support for the annual Year 9 Tour to the Port Power Football Club
• Funding for specialist coaching at all levels
• Funding for the Year 7 number presentation and end of year awards ceremony
The Cordner-Eggleston Trophy is awarded to the winner of the 1st XVIII Scotch - Melbourne Grammar football game each year. The 1858 Football Club organises a breakfast event each year to commemorate this event which embraces parents, Old Boys and the business community.
Other major events are organised on an annual basis.
Members of the 1858 Football Club organise a stall which promotes the Club, sells Club merchandise and holds competitions such as handball.
There are a number of development activities supported by the 1858 Football Club. In July a group of Year 7 footballers play a match against the Victorian Metropolitan Team. And each year in May a group of Year 9 footballers are selected to travel to Adelaide to play and to spend time with the Port Power Football Club. Every second year footballers from year 10 and 11 are selected to go on a most interesting cultural and football experience to Darwin and the Tiwi Islands. The boys play a game against the Tiwi and two games in Darwin against Northern Territory Teams.
There are many opportunities for involvement in Scotch Football from being a spectator to goal umpiring; scoreboard attendant or running the boundary. Team Managers are required for all year levels.
