What an exciting time it is as we approach the Commonwealth Games. We all look forward to many fantastic individual and team performances.
I continue to be impressed with the range of activities available to our boys. When we reflect on outstanding performances it is easy to neglect the team behind the scenes. How fortunate are our boys to have coaches and mentors at School and in their home environment. Individuals achieve their best by coaches listening, emphasing and encouraging. As parents we are privileged to be able to act in this role. The tacit message is, “I believe in you, I support you, I am confident that you will achieve at the best level that you can”.
Let the games begin!
One of the joys of returning to the new school year is catching up with old friends and starting new friendships at the extensive range of functions that are held in first term. Congratulations to the Class Representatives and Auxiliaries that have made them so successful.
The Year 7 Welcome Barbecue was an outstanding success. Thanks must go to the Year 7 Class Representatives, Lou Carroll and Annabel Long and their families. The fine, sunny conditions and relaxed atmosphere saw over 400 people catch up and make new friends. Thanks also to the members of the teaching staff who took time out to be part of this day. In particular I would like to thank Head of Middle School, Rob McLaren and Head of Year 7, Pino Cutinelli for their outstanding assistance.
The Boarders’ Parents’ Association held its Annual Dinner in the first week of the term, congratulations to Stuart Sizer and his team for a very successful night.
The James Forbes Academy continues to be a focal point for so much that happens at Scotch. A major initiative this year is the launch of ScotchArts. This concert series will bring artists into the School to present a public concert and to work with students and music staff. There is a list of events on page 5.
As the holidays begin, it is worthwhile to reflect on how much has been achieved this term. It is as if the shortening of the Term has inspired the boys to not waste a moment.
