Issue 1: Events April 2012

School and Scotch Parents’ Association events for parents

This edition profiles the Aquatics Club

The swimming and diving season always seems incredibly short with only six preparatory APS meets prior to the APS Finals Night on Tuesday 20th March 2012. It was a brilliant night of unrivalled effort, excitement and the indomitable Scotch spirit!

The Swimming and Diving Camp (23-28 January) at Runaway Bay, Queensland followed by a very intense set of early morning and after school training sessions, from the beginning of Term 1, helped the boys to reach peak condition for finals.

In the Scotch water-polo fraternity a number of boys gained state and national team selection and our swimmers, especially our younger swimmers, include a number of state age champions and national qualified swimmers.

To maintain our year-onyear improvement and to win future premierships, our diving team is crucial. In APS swimming and diving points are collected by swimmers and divers in all age groups to reach a school total – this is truly a team effort. Diving is an area where we are always seeking new talent and new members. There is a real opportunity to shine and to contribute. So we again invite any boys who might be interested to contact Teacher-in-charge, Ryan Nolan for more information (swimmers and gymnasts are especially welcomed).

A key theme among the Year 12 leadership group, championed by Captain of Swimming Lachie Hocking and Vice-Captain, Alex Cox, is to generate great camaraderie across all age groups in the squad.

The Auxiliary provides support with a series of events throughout the season; including a start of season swim trials barbecue, pump-up team selection lunch and the end-of-season presentation night. The Auxiliary also provides breakfast for the boys after training, so they make it to Period 1 with a full tank. The Committee also hosts two parent social evenings each year. There is no doubt that getting to know the other folks doing 6.00 am drop-offs adds to the enjoyment poolside at Saturday morning competitions, as there’s always some good conversation.

We congratulate the team for their efforts on Finals Night and enjoyed celebrating what was once again another very solid example of Scotch’s excellence in the pool, a tradition that spans many years.
