RUGBY: Scrum Club

Background

The Scrum Club was formed in 1999 and is affiliated with both the Scotch Parents' Association and OSCA. The Scrum Club are rugby interested parents who support rugby at Scotch encouraging players to play at their full potential. Rugby at Scotch is an exciting sport with approximately 155 boys registered as players across all age groups, the Scotch 1st XV Premiers in 2002 and 2006 and many boys achieving Victorian representation. In 2007 Scotch defeated Melbourne Grammar in the 75th Anniversary of the first game of schoolboy rugby played in Victoria.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Barbecue: Every week we supply a complimentary drink and sausage for every player. This is a great starting place to get involved by helping you get to know other Scotch parents in the same and other year levels.

Cocktail Party : This is a fun night usually held in May to which all parents and members of the Scrum Club are invited.

Presentation Night : Presentation Night at the James Forbes Academy concludes the season with awards for each year group.

Year Level Representatives help as contacts for parents. These people know what is going on especially for late changes in games and venues and new social occasions. Get to know this person. They are listed in the Torch at the beginning of the year and on the Scum Club website.

Coaching Clinics : We assist in the organisation of coaching clinics and facilitation of Scotch players into State representative Schoolboy teams.

Fundraising: The Scrum Club raises funds to support a full scope of activities involving rugby at Scotch. These have included:

Assistance with capital works on or around the rugby field;

The sponsorship of touring teams;

The sponsorship of ticket purchases for international games for students playing rugby at the School.

Merchandise Scrum Club Scotch Rugby Jersey for parents at the sum of $60 and a Scrum Club Gilbert balls for the sum of $40.

Major events

Welcome Barbecue: The Welcome Barbecue is held at the Cardinal Pavilion and is an important function for new players, in particular for members of the Year 7 team(s). It will be held late April 2008.
