In this booklet the Auxiliaries and Clubs associated with a sport have been grouped according to season. The name of the club may not include the name of the sport but usually represents a significant Scotch event for that club. It is in these Clubs that great friendships are forged particularly for those parents with limited time during the week. Simply attending the Saturday fixture will introduce you to other parents and members of the associated Club and is a great way to show support and interest in your sons' activities. To get further involved, define what time you have and simply seek out a committee member or Year Level Representative for that sport. Your involvement can be at a level you feel comfortable with; intermittently helping on a barbecue or volunteering to help with a specific project right up to organising at the higher levels.
Not every sport has a Club or Auxiliary but this does not mean that parents do not participate. Often sports without Clubs can utilise parental support through the Teacher-in-Charge of the sport or the coach of the Team or have links to OSCA (eg Orienteering).
Your son may try many different sports throughout his time at Scotch. You can use this booklet to discover which group is associated with which sport and what their primary activities are.
Many sports have supported national and international tours for under age, development and first squads. Whilst the School cannot predict or promise future tours, by reading about past activities of the sport it can give you an idea of where and how often these tours occur. Something the boys may like to save for!
There are some significant fixtures for the School as a whole, so don't be surprised if your son wishes to attend these even if he is not participating. They include the Cordner-Eggleston Cup (see Football), the APS Swimming Finals (see Swimming), the Head of the River (Rowing) as well as many others.
Don't know where or when your son is playing and neither does he and its Saturday morning? Fixtures are obtained from the Sporting Website: http://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/Sport/Fixtures/fixture.pdf If there is wet weather and the sport is in danger of being postponed then you can phone the Wet weather number for Scotch or other Schools on the morning. This is also listed on the fixtures website. Other information on sport is available on Learning Point.
