School Council’s subcommittee has continued intensive dialogue with Transurban and VicRoads to ensure plans for the widened roadway best accommodate Scotch’s concerns over noise attenuation and minimise any loss of amenity resulting from these works. The Committee, chaired by Dr David Kemp includes Cam Johnston, Michael Sim, John Simpson and the Bursar, has sought the advice of a number of consultants to assist in securing the best outcome.
Latest discussions have focused upon Transurban’s responsibilities to build acoustic walls beyond a minimum level around Scotch College. The committee is very conscious of the varying height and effectiveness of existing noise barriers around the School and maintain that improvements in acoustic outcomes must remain a primary consideration in Transurban’s engineering design for the project. Transurban has advised that construction work is scheduled to commence in July 2007 around that part of the road project which adjoins the School. The School Council and sub committee will continue to engage with authorities to protect the amenity of the College into the future.
