An auction of 17 ‘masterpieces’ by Junior School art students, held in the prestigious surroundings of the Fox Classic Car Museum at Docklands, raised more than $12,000 for Junior School Parents’ Association (JSPA) projects.
Gathering at ‘The Louvre’ end of the museum – the home of beautiful cars such as Bentleys, Ferraris, Jaguars, Porsches and Rolls Royces – parents bid enthusiastically for the masterpieces.
The JSPA, long an active social events organiser and fundraising body for the School, will direct the funds to a variety of projects, including the Artist in Residence program in the Junior Art Studio.
Students from across the Junior School created the 17 masterpieces in art classes during term three. Everyone was excited about choosing the designs and making the collaborative pieces. Each year level learned techniques associated with the chosen media, and many enjoyed working with different products on unusual surfaces.
Works included a water fountain, hand-painted furniture, hand-made felted items, textured canvases, glazed bisqueware, self-portraits and silk paintings.
Dr Phyllis Lau, Mrs Jo Date and Mrs Pam Kelton-Rook successfully organised, exhibited the art works and marketed this event.
