More than 300 Junior School friends greatly enjoyed watching the boys fly kites on the Junior School Oval during a Term 2 event supported by the Scotch Foundation.
Organised by current parents Andrew Sutherland (’85) and Enio di Donato (’77), the kite afternoon was lots of fun, as well as an opportunity for the boys to show their kite-making and kite-flying skills – which were very evident.
Under the guidance of Priscilla Williams of the Art Department, there was plenty of variety in design, colour and shape. Some boys even went as far as to bring their professional kites from home. Chief judge of the afternoon, the Principal, Dr Gordon Donaldson, was delighted with the enthusiasm of everyone involved and had a hard time judging the various categories of kites and flights.
Enio di Donato and a band of wonderful barbecue helpers kept the hungry masses well fed all afternoon, and Scotch was very grateful to all the various supporters who assisted with foods, drinks and prizes. Alan Watkinson, Director of Development was on hand to give out the prizes and distribute bags of sweets to all the children (and some adults!) present. ‘It’s always great to be giving back to the School and the families,’ he said. ‘Normally families give to the Foundation, but it’s really a two-way exchange!’
Guy Mason and the Junior Staff were delighted with the level of participation and excitement among the boys, and enjoyed the chance to meet with and talk to so many parents and relatives on the day. So successful was the afternoon that there have already been requests for another similar activity, either later this year or early in 2007. We can’t wait!
