Scotch College

Grade 3

An atmosphere of cooperation and understanding is created in Year 3 classes. During circle time each week, the boys have the opportunity to express their own thoughts and to listen to other members of the group talk about their feelings. A child’s self-esteem is a vitally important component for the development of academic and social skills. Included here are some comments from the boys about learning at Scotch College. They were asked to name one thing that’s good about Scotch:

  • we have lots of different things to do

  • circle time, because we learn more about our friends

These comments and illustrations by Year 3 boys highlight how each boy is developing an ability to understand and value self, to understand and value others and to develop positive relationships, emotional awareness and self-esteem. These are all qualities that will allow the boys to develop skills and knowledge in literacy and numeracy.
