Words: ASTRIDA COOPER – ACTING DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Each year the Scotch College Foundation hosts two mornings during term 1 at the School for grandparents and special friends of Year 7 students. The visit to Scotch by many of the grandparents is their first encounter with the School, and they depart knowing that their grandsons will make the most of the many academic and co-curricular opportunities available.
This year grandparents and friends assembled by the flagpoles near the Main Oval, where their grandsons welcomed them, and walked to the Ian Roach Hall for an introduction to the morning by the Acting Director of Development and the Head of Year 7. Several groups of talented Year 7 students followed with musical items that delighted the assembled guests, and allowed them to appreciate the acoustic beauty of the auditorium.
Prior to a light lunch for the grandparents and friends, the boys showed their visitors around various areas of the Senior School campus in which they spent time – the Library, Computer Centre, Language Centre and Archives, to name a few. As the boys farewelled their guests at the Cardinal Pavilion, prefects were on hand to meet and greet the grandparents and guide them inside to welcomed refreshments and lunch.
The grandparents and friends always leave this special morning knowing that they will be welcome to return to the school for various sporting, music and drama activities, as well as other occasions during their grandsons’ years at Scotch.
