Hidden talents at Scotch

Gluten-free cooking session as part of a skills sharing program

The Scotch non-teaching staff are often the silent engine room, providing an array of invaluable support services to all areas of the School and the wider community. The staff behind these roles are highly skilled, hard working and deeply committed to the continuing excellence of Scotch.

Recently a group of the non-teaching staff, initiated by Sophie Musci, put their varied skills to greater use by designing and delivering a range of personal and professional development sessions to their colleagues. These sessions ranged from digital photography, gardening tips and water saving to IT sessions and gluten-free cooking.

The program was trialled during term 2 among the non-teaching staff and proved to be hugely popular. Eight staff offered 12 self-made sessions to around 150 of their colleagues.

A broad range of additional programs such as project management, genealogy and wine appreciation look like being added to the expanded program, which is to be rolled out over the remainder of the year.

The benefit of these sessions works in several ways in bringing a far-flung and varied group of staff closer together by improving public speaking and other skills, and, of course, by imparting invaluable knowledge in key areas of interest.
