Works by many famous Australian artists will feature in the third Scotch College Fine Art Show and Auction in November.
Words: ASTRIDA COOPER • ACTING DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Sydney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Charles Blackman, Norman Lindsay, Tom Roberts – these are names synonymous with excellence in Australian art.
Works by these famous artists and many more will feature in the third Scotch College Fine Art Show and Auction, to be held on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November, with the auction on Sunday afternoon, 16 November. The venue is the sublime setting of the Cardinal Pavilion at Scotch.
As in the two previous years there are also two pre-show information evenings at Artpreciation, in Toorak. The first was held on 1 September, and the second is on Tuesday 28 October.
The third show and auction promises once again to feature a wide range of superb investment art. As well as works by Nolan, Boyd, Blackman, Lindsay and Roberts, there will be works on offer by John Perceval, Rick Amor, Tom Roberts, John Glover, Eugene von Guerard and Frederick McCubbin.
Once again we are fortunate that past parent Barry Pang, and future parent Anita Archer will source fine examples of works by these well-known Australian artists. Current parents Robert and Kathy Littlewood will also provide excellent Australian lithographs by various artists.
All proceeds from the show will be directed through the Scotch College Foundation to the Ken Field Fund for the Arts. Current staff working in the Art, Design and Technology and Music streams use these funds to provide additional educational programs for Scotch Senior and Junior School students.
Barry Pang says the Australian art market has recently been very strong, despite high fuel prices and a declining sharemarket. Recently, Pablo Picasso’s Sylvette sold at auction for $6.9 million. This is an all-time record for a painting sold in Australia.
Barry says the international market has also shown considerable strength. For example, a painting in Claude Monet’s ‘Waterlilies’ series recently sold at Sotheby’s London auction for $US80 million.
‘With such a strong market, conditions are ideal for the Scotch Fine Art Show and Auction,’ Barry says.
