Words: ASTRIDA COOPER • ACTING DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The 2008 Old Scotch Collegians’ East Melbourne Glen Chapter lunch was held in the Cardinal Pavilion during June.
The theme for the lunch was ‘Water – our precious resource’, and with such a topical theme it was no surprise that the lunch was a sellout. Guest speaker, octogenarian Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis entertained and informed 170 Old Boys and their partners.
Our EMG committee had worked together with Sue Faulkhead to ensure that every detail for the day had been covered. Several interstate guests made the trip, and there was also a good representation from country Victoria.

Following the requisite pre-lunch drinks to warm every soul, the Acting Director of Development, Mrs Astrida Cooper, welcomed everyone and then handed over the formalities to the Chairman of the Chapter, Dr Hugh Melville (’41). Dr Melville also welcomed all the guests in his inimitable way, before inviting the Rev. Alec Hilliard (’41) to say grace before lunch was served.
EMG committee member Bill Philip (’46) introduced Nancy Millis, who set the scene authoritatively, explaining with great clarity what we must all consider about minimising our water use. Dr Melville thanked Nancy for her enlightening and engaging presentation by giving her a memento from Scotch.
Many Old Boys enjoy the opportunity which this and the other EMG functions provide each year to reconnect with the school and their old friends. We look forward to welcoming you back to Scotch for the Christmas lunch, to be held on Friday 12 December in the Boarders’ Dining Room. GS
