Professor Geoffrey Metz (’63) is the 2008 to 2010 president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, having previously been honorary secretary and then deputy president of the RACP. He has also served on most of the RACP’s committees over the years.
In addition to running a busy private gastroenterology practice at Epworth Hospital, Geoffrey is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. He is also an enthusiastic member of the World Gastroenterology Organisation’s Train the Trainers Faculty, which involves him in teaching medical education around the world.
Geoffrey is married to Dr Kaye Anderson. The couple’s three sons have all attended Scotch – Andrew (’94), David (’96) and Stephen (’00). Geoffrey’s father, Joseph (’32) was also a Scotch Old Boy. Outside work Geoffrey loves music, theatre, cinema, travel, surfing, and the Geelong Football Club.
Geoffrey is the second old Scotch Collegian to serve as president of the RACP. Sir Jock Frew (’29) was president in 1972. Sir Jock received a knighthood and OBE in 1976 for services to medicine.
