Dr Turf and crew get the 1858 Football Club breakfast off to a bright start.
WORDS: Mr Jon Long – President 1858 Football Club Photography: Mr Tim Shearer
Held in the members’ Dining Room at the MCG for the third year, guests were treated to wonderful entertainment courtesy of the MC, Graham ‘Smokey’ Dawson, and a panel consisting of Richmond superstar Matthew Richardson, former Essendon hero Adam Ramanauskas, The Age doyen Caroline Wilson and Herald Sun and 3AW sports stalwart Jon Anderson, who were most capably led by Old Scotchie Dr Turf (aka John Rothfield ’72).
With over 300 in attendance the morning was once again a highlight of the School’s football calendar. It was held on the eve of the Cordner Eggleston Cup, which always adds an extra dimension and appeal to the morning. The return of the cup to Scotch the following day, as a result of the magnificent win by the 1st XVIII over MGS, capped off two extremely enjoyable days.
Planning events are only one of the 1858 Club’s functions as it assists the School’s football program in many ways throughout the year. If you would like to know more about the 1858 Club or its sponsorship opportunities please contact the President, Jon Long, at jmlong@netspace.net.au. GS
