Scotch College

Another season, another OS Athletics Premiership

Old Scotch Athletics Club recently won its fourth Associated Public Schools Old Collegians' Cross Country Premiership in a row, and looks set for a successful athletics season with subscription levels at an all time high.

Old Scotch was able to retain the APSOC Premiership despite a late season charge from Old Haileybury, and a depleted line-up due to injuries and overseas trips. The team included a number of recent school leavers such as Johnny Halliday ('95), Peter Simm ('93), Andrew Simm ('95), and rookie Andrew Steel ('98).

As the athletics season gets under way, Old Scotch is keen for any potential athletes to come and join the growing number of runners, jumpers and throwers as we strive to repeat the success of last season.

Davenport, Gaffney and Price

Links between Old Scotch Athletics Club and the Scotch College Athletics Team are stronger than ever, and we hope to recruit a number of Juniors for the upcoming season.

Two of our members, Tom Cade (Year 12) and Nick Miller (Year 9), are current Scotch Collegians who represented the school superbly at the Combined APS Athletics Sports and will be hoping to continue their success over Summer at the Box Hill Athletics Track.

Other Old Scotch Collegians enjoying success in athletics include: Andrew Jamieson ('64), who was recently fourth in the Australian 30 km Walking Championships; Mike Taylor ('95), who is competing for the San Diego University Athletics Club; and John Dawson who is spending a year in Japan for both work and athletics.

The annual Ewen MacDonald 800m handicap on Family Day saw youth prevail with Andrew Steel ('98) narrowly winning from Peter Simm ('93) and Johnny Halliday ('95).

Anyone interested in joining the Old Scotch Athletics Club should call Mark Purvis or Andrew Simm. Alternatively, visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Track/2423.
