What they're doing now ...

Late last year Jim Ireland ('68), and his company New Oak Ford won the Fair Trader of the Year in the Victorian Awards. Jim's company has been in the highly competitive market for forty-two years. Jim's son David ('94) has been playing football with Old Scotch.

Austin Paterson ('70) the CEO of Strathdon, is keeping an eye on former member of staff Frank Paton ('24), who recently celebrated his ninety-third birthday. Frank is keeping good health and is a regular attendee of Old Boy reunion dinners.

John Albrecht ('86) is a Group Director of Kosminsky and has been a jewellery auctioneer, a lecturer for the CAE and the National Trust. In July he conducted a workshop for the Australian Antique Dealers' Association.

Al Hillgemann ('95) recently received from Swinburne University of Technology the Orica Prize for the Best Final Year computing student.

Bryce Lindeman ('95) was a member of Box Hill's First XV who were Premiers in the recently completed Victorian Rugby Union competition. The achievement was particularly significant for the Box Hill club, which had not previously won a premiership in its forty years in the first grade competition. Bryce was a member of the school's First XV in 1994 (Premiers) and 1995. He completed his commerce degree at Deakin University in 1998 and is now employed in the stockbroking industry.

Marty Bales ('89) has worked with Mushroom Records since his university days. He started in the Melbourne office in 1993, moving to run the Amsterdam office in 1995 and then to London, where he has been their Business Affairs Manager for the UK and various international territories.

Simon Jakobovits ('92) topped his final year medicine at the Alfred in 1998 and won an unprecedented eight prizes, in such diverse areas as Psychiatry, Surgery and Clinical Medicine.

David Sheludko ('97) was the Musical Director and Conductor of the recent Trinity College production of West Side Story. He is currently studying for his Bachelor of Music Degree hoping to major in either conducting or composition.

George Swinburne ('61) was one of eight Australian lawyers named in a UK survey that purported to name the best lawyers in nine practice areas worldwide. The lawyers were selected after questionnaires were sent to 18,000 practitioners in more than sixty countries.

Stuart Macintyre ('64) has been appointed the new Dean of the Melbourne University's Faculty of Arts. His association with the University spans over thirty years. He has been the Professor of History since 1990, and is actively involved in the next Scotch College 150 year history.

Andrew McEachern ('55) wrote recently that he was living in Queensland, following his retirement, where he has unintentionally turned a long standing hobby of stamp collection into a small business. It has become a new fulltime career with mail auctions, stands at fairs, and a worldwide correspondence course. This all follows an extensive business career including the conversion of Medibank to Medibank Private in 1975, and Managing Director of the Credit Union Australia Group.

Gus Seebeck ('95) was the winner of the 1999 Sandover Medal in the WAFL. Gus is studying at university in Perth and has had a top season. His parents, now living in Jakarta, heard the final count from a mobile phone held to a TV set in Broome by friends Bruce Candy ('61) and his wife Judy.

Peter Mitchell, son of former long serving staff member Arthur Mitchell, is one of two Wardens of the Rotamah Island Bird Observatory. The island is situated west of Lakes Entrance in the midst of the Lakes National Park. He did a degree in Veterinary Science and a doctorate in Zoology with a thesis on koalas, and has been living in Bairnsdale since 1976. Peter and his co-warden Barbara Moss encouraged people to live on the island as guests thereby introducing lots of people to the lakes environment and to its study. Arthur is also living in Gippsland, and is going well!

Drew Ginn ('92) added another title to his illustrious list when he and James Tomkins won the world coxless pairs in Canada earlier this year.
