What they are doing now ...

Regular news bulletins from Ralph Morris ('52) and wife Yvonne arrive at the Old Boys office, and their last one mentioned that they were meeting up with Dick Hatherley ('54) in the Canary Islands. Ralph was preparing for an Atlantic Rally to St Lucia, and Dick will be joining in with his yacht 'Pacific Flier', and Adams 12 (Royal Yacht Club)

Peter Simon ('68) was the guest speaker at a recent Old Boy monthly luncheon. After completing a commerce degree at Melbourne University, he spent 10 years in the highly competitive wine industry. He rose to be Director of Marketing for the Stanley Wine Co, and Managing Director of the local and international distributing group H G Brown & Sons.

He was also elected to the Australian Wine Board's marketing and export committee. He was later appointed Marketing Director of Hardy Brothers Group Ltd where he was able to gain experience in retailing.

In 1985 he founded Simon Richards Direct which has grown to be one of Australia's largest independent direct marketing agencies.

In 1996 Peter was voted Australian Direct Marketer of the year. He is a Director of the Australian Direct Marketing Association, the Melbourne Direct Marketing Club, and is on the advisory board for Monash University's Graduate Diploma in Direct Marketing.

In a note advising change of address Chris Walker ('67) commented "after seeing patients for more than twenty years I've decided to take a year off and go back to the farm for a while and then travel around the world."

Rohan Dixon ('92) recently wrote 'I am currently residing in the UK, working as a management consultant for a company called Gresham Bell. I left Australia in April 1997 after completing a science degree at Monash University, majoring in anatomy and physiology. Following this I completed an honours degree at the prestigious Institute of Reproduction and Development at the Monash Medical Centre. It was after completing my thesis that I left Australia and joined my family in the UK, working for GE Capital. After 2 months, and the calling from friends, I decided to pick up my bags and do some travelling. This short trip lasted 4 months and I travelled through Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Syria. I then headed back to the UK to begin work at Gresham Bell, where I am currently enjoying the work but struggling with the weather.'

'The other early twenties Old Boy' featured in the December 1997 issue of Great Scot in the article 'Farewell to Stan Hawthorne' that ended 'this leaves Hec Ingram and Max Paton to carry the banner for the early twenties'. Hec's photo with his son and grandson appeared in that issue. Max Paton ('26) is still batting quite well in Sydney with sons Michael ('53) and Geoffrey ('57). Michael's two sons went to brother school Knox Grammar in Sydney.

Charles Ballieu ('89), David Iser ('89) and Michael Hurley ('89) all graduated in Medicine from Melbourne University in December 1997.

David Kennan ('58) became ill with obsessive compulsive disorder in 1975 and had to give up his oral surgery practice. Since then he has devoted most of his time and energy to helping set up the Obsessive Compulsive and Anxiety Disorders Foundation whose aim is to counsel individuals suffering from the disorder and also help medical staff dealing with their patients by providing information kits and advice. Anybody wanting help or further information should phone the Foundation's Helpline - 9576 2477, or contact David at home on 9786 8478.

Trevor Lemke ('56) pictured above has been living permanently in Bangkok for many years, working as a freelance photographer. Members of the Old Scotch Football will remember 'No 33' running up and down the wing, and note from the photograph that he looks very relaxed as he MCs a recent Thai wedding.

Ian Marchment ('63) is currently Managing Director of IG Office & Computer Supplies in South Melbourne, who specialise in commercial printing, office stationery and cash book software for small business.

He has been President of the National Office Products Association and Brighton Junior Chamber of Commerce and recently ran the annual Brighton Grammar Fair. Campbell Neal ('79) completed a law/science degree at Monash and was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in 1986. He is currently the Executive Vice President of Bankers Trust, where his prime responsibility is for equities distribution. In his spare time he is a hard working member of the committee of the Old Boys Football Club and has been actively improving the club's sponsorship base.

David Cowper ('56) has just moved to Sutton Coldfield, which is located about 10km from the Birmingham CBD. A recent letter would indicate that he is playing plenty of golf - 'snow is the only thing that prevents you from playing.' He is also giving the local parks a great work out, with his dog 'Gizmo'.

James Alexander ('66) is now the Managing Director of The Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, Cumbria in England's Lakes District. The complex is residential with 65 double, twin rooms and suites, and also hosts business conferences and conventions. Those interested are most welcome to phone 01539 734000.
