On 23 June, 2001 the Scotch College Pipes and Drums Auxiliary invited past Band Members to an informal dinner at the Cardinal Pavilion. The dinner was to celebrate the 55th year of the Band and to congratulate Ross Campbell on the completion of twenty-five years as Master in Charge - Pipes and Drums.
Ross Campbell presented a video of the highly successful Scotch College 150th Sesquicentenary Highland Gathering, held in April, 2001, in which school bands representing every mainland State of Australia and three New Zealand Bands competed. The video was followed by a band member from each decade presenting an overview of the Band back then. Speakers were: Ian Cameron ('48) Scott North ('67) Rob Adams ('76)
Alistair Lindsay ('85) and Will Fowles ('96) each providing a humorous and warm presentation. Slides were shown and anecdotes relayed regarding the trips to competitions and the Pipe Band from the perspective of both a Drummer and Piper given.
Ross Campbell was applauded for his outstanding contribution and commitment to the Scotch College Pipes and Drums and his ability to not only teach, but instil in each student the confidence and ability to enjoy playing the bagpipes or drums when they have left school.
At the end of the evening Band members joined together in a massed band performance. From Basil Corr ('47) to Shaun Chalmers ('00) spanning fifty-three years of piping and showing the unity of the Pipes and Drums Old Boys. The night saw Barrie Orme ('50) and Ian Plaisted ('51) (who had travelled down from Queensland to be present) pipe together in a final performance concluding the evening.
Thanks to Rob Adams ('76) and Alistair Lindsay ('85) for their help on the night, and to all who attended.
