Ms Suzette Boyd is our new Head of Library and Information Services.
She has had a long career in teacher-librarianship and has a national, and developing international reputation for pursuing benchmarking practices and facilitating change in school libraries.
Suzette comes to us after many years in the state education system and more recently at PLC and MLC. During her seven years as Director of Library and Information Services at MLC, she transformed the library into an award-winning centre.
The Australian Library and Information Association congratulated Suzette 'on her many ideas and practices that come together to produce a service which combines innovation in technology, innovation in leadership, innovation in management and innovation in learning', when presenting her with the 1999 ALIA Award for Innovation.
In 1999 she was also awarded the Progressive School Library Media Award from the International Association of School Librarianship for 'the implementation of innovative ideas to enhance the lifelong learning skills of students'.
Professionally, Suzette's passions are the promotion of literature and information literacy, the delivery of exceptional service to users and the power of a positive attitude.
Literature promotion is an area in which Suzette has long been involved. In the early 1990s she established a company which brought together students, writers, illustrators and performers for a series of three-day festivals at the World Congress Centre.
Suzette has also edited two collections of short stories for Harper Collins, 'Between You and Me' and 'Fatal Twists'.
Perhaps the year 2001 may see the inaugural Scotch Literature Festival and in the future, authors may be elevated to the status of heroes for our students?
Suzette believes that books and boys should be brought together in a dynamic and exciting way, for example by giving students the opportunity to interact with writers and by reading aloud to them.
In the many papers on information management that Suzette has had published, her message is clear. Regardless of the quality of the resources and the attractiveness of the library buildings, it is the attitude of the information professionals in the library that will make the difference in the delivery of service to the students and the staff.
