The appointment of the School Captain for 2001 was eagerly awaited by the School community, due to the excitement of the School's 150th celebrations planned for 2001.
Brendan Ferguson (pictured right) was a very popular appointment. Enrolled as a Grade 4 student in the Junior School, Brendan has made his mark in many varied activities at Scotch. He has been a member of the 1st XVIII for the past two seasons, an athlete of distinction, and was last year's Vice Captain of Athletics.
Last year he won his sixth successive annual House Cross Country races in each of the age groups he has competed in since Year 7. In 2000 he jointly won the 24 Hour Hike.
Brendan was appointed the Captain of Drama in 2000, and has been a brilliant on-stage performer in many Scotch dramatic productions. He brought flair and vitality to many school Assemblies last year, and his public performances as School Captain have been outstanding. Last year Brendan was Captain of Bond House and a member of the Class of 2000 Committee. He has deferred in Law and Creative Arts at Melbourne University to serve Scotch as its School Captain in this important year.
Mark Simpson (pictured right) has been appointed as Vice Captain of the School. Last year Mark won a Studies and Games Prize and was the inaugural winner of the FWW Scott Prize in Year 9.
He plays the saxophone in the Monday Big Band and has been actively involved in student affairs as a Peer Support Leader and in the Student Forum.
Mark has had an outstanding sporting career so far at Scotch. He is the current Captain of Cricket, having played in the first XI since Year 10. He has also represented Victoria in cricket at both U17 and U19 level, and has recently crowned this with his selection in the Australian U19 team. Mark also represented Scotch in the first XVIII last year.
Brendan and Mark are both very popular and highly respected.
Their broad range of interests and activities means they communicate with a large number of students and staff. Scotch looks forward with confidence to the leadership to be provided by them in this the School's 150th year.
