Saturday 20 October in the Cardinal Pavilion was the setting for another great night of jazz and dancing to bigbands at the annual Scotch College Jazz Cabaret.
The mood was set early in the night with the fabulous Cardinals singing some '50's acapella followed by a dazzling set of bigband standards as played by the Monday Morning Bigband.
The main feature for the evening was a showcase of Scotch's finest jazz soloists playing their renditions of music by the greats. Jason Bond and Keenan Adams paid homage to the great trumpeters Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis while James Matt blew the house down on the classic clarinet feature, 'Golden Wedding'. Other featured soloists were Stephen Liew, Will Mason, Andrew Moffatt and Hugo Moodie. To top it off they were backed by some of the finest musicians in the country, drawn from around Melbourne and Scotch's own music staff. The band included members of the Australian Showband as well as musicians who've played with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, John Farnham and many more. What a great sound it was!
Once the show was over it was down to dancing the night away, with two brackets from the Scotch College Showband.
The night was a great way to end the year for the College bigbands and was enjoyed immensely by a crowd of over two hundred people. Many thanks go to those who attended or helped organize a great evening.
