Cadet Tattoo under a full moon

After a wet and miserable day on Friday 14 November, the weather cleared for the Cadet Unit's Tattoo.

Under a full moon and powerful floodlights, the unit displayed their dress, drill, self discipline and musical skill in a most spectacular visual display on the Main Oval. After months of preparation and training, the Junior School sentry guard, four recruit companies, flag party, guard, military band and pipes and drums performed the unit parade and march past. In true highland tradition, the lone piper on the distant chapel pulpit represented an appropriate conclusion to the event.

The unit's Reviewing Officer was Commodore J S Dickson, AM, MBE, RAN (ret'd). Commodore Dickson was a seaman officer, having seen operational service in South East Asian waters during the 1960s.

The Commodore was impressed with the unit's parade, as evidenced by his address - 'I applaud Scotch College for maintaining its Cadet Corps. Through Cadets you learn quickly the importance of some of the fundamentals of life, that a number of individuals working together as a team are considerably more effective than the combined efforts of the individuals working separately; that both imposed and self discipline are important in the drive to achieve goals and that one weak link in the chain can be disastrous and cause the downfall of the whole team. I say with sincerity that you have every right to be proud of this parade. I have seen many, I have rarely seen one from a comparable group which measures up to the standards you have attained tonight.

I congratulate you all.'

Congratulations to everyone involved with special thanks to CUO Matthew Spargo (Parade Commander), and Lt Norm Bain for his work as parade director.

Mr Tony Glover, Officer in Command.
