AG Ideas Conference 2002
Twenty seven Year 12 Studio Art and Visual Communication and Design students attended the three day conference, April 22 to 24, held at the Concert Hall, Arts Centre, and Melbourne. This is the biggest student design conference in the world, and this year over two thousand secondary and tertiary students attended.
The boys were able to see and listen to presentations from speakers of international standing. The Ken Field Memorial Fund provided substantial financial support, which allowed such a large body of our students to attend.

The Year 12 Art TourDuring March 14 to 16, the Year 12 students were able to take part in a three-day visit to Sydney and Canberra. The visit is aimed at preparation for the theory examination in November, as well as providing inspiration for their practical folios. The program is power packed, cramming in visits to a number of galleries in both States. The intensive exposure to past works, as well as contemporary pieces, provided them with a wealth of ideas. Flying into Sydney on the Thursday morning, in two days they visited the NSW War Memorial, NSW Art Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Circular Quay, Brett Whiteley's Studio, Australia 'A' Painting, and Works on Paper Galleries, Barry Stern Gallery and the Contemporary Photography Centre. Flying to Canberra on Friday night, they visited the Canberra National Gallery and National War Memorial, as well as the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. The Meeting of Minds…Year 11 Studio Arts Students were able to visit the studio of sculptor Mr Louis Laumen and see a major sculpture in progress. Mr Laumen demonstrated how he developed concepts from his research, and then sketched the idea, translating it into a full-scale clay model. From the life size clay sculpture, cast plaster moulds are made for the wax and ultimately bronze sections. During the day the boys visited Span Gallery, RMIT, Gold and Silversmithing Exhibition, Australia A Galleries, and Dianne Tanzer Gallery where they viewed the work of artist Juan Ford, who spoke about his approach to painting. 
Top Arts VCE 2001Two boys achieved the distinction of having their work selected for Top Arts 2001. Across Victoria, there were approximately two thousand five hundred works submitted, and two hundred made it through to the first round of selection. At this stage Scotch had three students' works that were being reviewed. In the final selection two boys, Mark Kwong and David Yule each had a work selected, as part of the eighty on display in the National Gallery of Victoria. This is a remarkable feat, as the standard of work entered must have scored an A+ to be considered. Scotch students have been represented in seven of the past eight years of Top Art Shows, but this is the first time that the works of two students have been selected from the one year.
Pic 1: David Yule painted this 2.5 x .5 metre oil painting using photo-silk screen images taken at Warrnambool. He linked the black and white photo-silk screens into the background.
