Annual Dinner: fine food, fun and philosophy
More than 550 Old Scotch Collegians and guests enjoyed a great fun feast at the Old Scotch Collegians' Association Annual Dinner at Melbourne Park Function Centre on Friday 30 May.
They were entertained and inspired by guest speaker, Dr John Tickell, feted with smoked chicken entree, haggis (of course!), roast chicken, lamb rump and some great red and white wines, and continued to enjoy each other's company until the witching hour struck.
During the evening, special presentations were made to the Chairman of the School Council, Michael Robinson, and to retiring Scotch Foundation President, Campbell McComas, for magnificent service to their respective organisations and to the School. OSCA President Rob Wilson also announced that the association's former Executive Director, Leigh McGregor, would be recommended for an Honorary Life Membership of OSCA at this year's Annual General Meeting.
Guest speaker Dr John Tickell urged Old Boys to show moderation in all aspects of life - except for four things: laughter, sex, vegetables and fish. He pointed out that if "f" is taken out of the word "life", it becomes "lie". He suggested that the "f" words should be put back in our lives: for example, "family", "fun", "friendships" and "faith".
It was another memorable dinner, thanks to Dinner Convenor Bob Welch, Speaker Liaison Campbell McComas, MC Stewart Faichney, Technical Director Lachie Fairbairn, Pianist David Brown, and OSCA staff Tim Shearer, Monika Matlik and Sue Mackay.
