Season 2002 has proven to be a very successful one for the cross-country team. It all started in the Term One holidays when 17 boys attended a 4-day intensive training camp at Cowes. This set the platform for our defence of the APS Premiership, where we came head to head with the strong Xavier team in the first round. We overcame this hurdle with fine contributions from our captain Nick Miller, Vice Captain Hugh Gundlach, Andrew Krumins, Andrew Birch and Luke Stokes.
The APS season went as planned; each week the team battled against a new foe and each week enjoyed victories. The commitment and work ethic shown by all the athletes throughout the season was unquestionable and each win was hard fought and every runner played their part. Success continued, finishing a creditable second to Marcellin at the Victorian Road relay championships and the State All School Championships.
A highlight of the season was the outstanding form of Nick Miller, who won all six of the APS Open races.
A very enjoyable presentation night was a fitting finale to a great season in which a blend of experience from our senior runners and youthful enthusiasm from our juniors led to one of the most memorable seasons on record. With three premierships in the past four years, the future looks very bright for cross-country at Scotch College.
