During the holidays the Scotch College Team travelled to Sydney to take part in the Cathay Pacific, World Rugby Tens Competition held at Macquarie University.
Twenty boys were accompanied by coaches Mr Chris Taylor, 1st XV, and Mr Stefan Janse Van Vuuren.
On Friday we played a game against a mixture of Sydney Scots Firsts, Seconds and Thirds. The game was fast flowing and open in style. The boys really took on their opposition, but the experience and skill of the Scots players allowed them to win 32-0.
On Saturday morning we drove out to the Redlands Competition, where we were to play three, twenty minute ten a-side games. The first, against a Kogarah Marist High, was a tough game, however we won 12-5.
In our next two games we were not as evenly seeded we came up against firstly Sydney Grammar School, who won 31-0, and then St Patricks College Stradfield, 42-0. One consolation with these scores was that both these schools went through to the finals and St Patricks won the Bowl Competition.
Because we had won our first game, we went through to the first semi final and played out a very fierce game against Oakland High School, finally going down 18-0. There is no doubt that by participating in this highly competitive competition we exposed the team to an intense level of play which would prove beneficial to them in the future.
The boys are to be congratulated for they way they fought back against some heavy, skilled opposition and often applied intense pressure for extended periods, which unfortunately did not get reflected in the score line.
