Arthur Miller's famous allegorical tale, The Crucible, is the powerful and thought-provoking 2004 Senior Play being performed by the Scotch College Drama Department, in association with Presbyterian Ladies College.
First performed in 1953, The Crucible relates the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692 to their contemporary equivalent in Miller's time, the McCarthy hearings. The figurative 'witch hunt' of McCarthyism becomes literal in the play, which is constructed to illustrate how fear and hysteria, mixed with an atmosphere of persecution, can lead to tragic consequences.
The Crucible will be performed at the Scotch College Scout Hall from 6-8 May and bookings are now open. Details are on the booking form, which is included in the centre of this issue of Great Scot.
Scotch College and Presbyterian Ladies College continue their wonderful theatrical collaboration with the production of the critically-acclaimed
