On 5 May, Year 9 Scotch and Strathcona - Tay Cregan joined together for an afternoon focusing on Dreams and Goals. A small group of boys and girls from the two schools organised the afternoon which included all 80 of the Strathcona girls and an equal number of Scotch boys.
There were a series of speakers and the School Captains from both schools, Edward Tudor and Carolyn White, spoke of their own Dreams and Goals, both short and long term. They were then followed by Dr Dick Galbraith OBE MD. Dr Galbraith stated that although he was a Wesley boy his son-in-law Geoff Murdoch (81') and grandson William (Gr 1) were Scotch boys, so he felt at home. Dr Galbraith spoke of his own personal journey of dreams to become a doctor and his pioneering work in the Pacific region, bringing medical services to countries that previously had no services. He spoke of his work in giving back sight to those who had gone blind from what were preventative diseases.
He had quite a captivated audience from his stories and slides.
The students then moved to the Cardinal Pavilion and reflected on their own Dreams and Goals , sharing in small groups. This was added to by the next guest speaker, ammy Van Weisser the endurance swimmer, ho shared her Dreams and Goals. She spoke of her swim across Bass Strait and her Murray swim; truly inspirational!
The afternoon was a wonderful opportunity for the students to hear about other peoples' aspirations and for the students to reflect on their own Dreams and Goals.
