Exciting Developments at Fairhaven: Progress and Projects for 2024

We are thrilled to share the exciting developments at Fairhaven with the Scotch Family. This year marks an important phase as we lay the groundwork for what will be a transformative experience for future Year 9 students. Here is a look at our progress and plans for 2024.

Site Survey

The first step in bringing Fairhaven to life was to gain a deeper understanding of the property through a site survey.  The insights from this survey will help inform the design and development of our facilities and program, ensuring that they are built in harmony with the natural environment. Our goal is to create an eco-friendly campus that integrates seamlessly with the beauty of its surrounds.

Researching and Visiting Other Outdoor Education Programs

To deliver a world-class outdoor education experience, we are committed to learning from the best. This year, the Fairhaven Steering Group has connected with likeminded schools to learn from well-developed outdoor education programs such as those at Scots College, MLC and Lauriston. By observing different approaches and methodologies, we aim to better understand the opportunities and challenges, to build a uniquely Scotch program. Along with these visits, we have partnered with The Learning Future, who bring a global perspective on transforming learning environments, to help shape our program.

Consulting with the Scotch Family

Throughout 2024, we will be consulting with teachers, students, parents, alumni, and outdoor education experts. These consultations will provide invaluable feedback and insights that will shape the development of Fairhaven. We want to ensure that our program aligns with the values and expectations of our community, and we are committed to keeping the lines of communication open throughout this process.

Building Relationships with the Mallacoota Community

Fairhaven is more than an extension of Scotch College; it is a new addition to the Mallacoota community. We are committed to building strong, positive relationships with our neighbours – residents, businesses, and organisations. We envision Fairhaven as a hub for community service, where our students can contribute meaningfully to the local area and learn more about the importance of community engagement and environmental stewardship.

Appointing a Farm Manager

With support from the longstanding and outgoing farm manager, we have appointed a new farm manager who will oversee day-to-day operations and ensure our facilities are maintained to the highest standards.

The farm manager will play a crucial role in bringing our vision for Fairhaven to life, ensuring that it remains a vibrant and functional space for years to come. We look forward to sharing this news with you in our next update.

Join Us on the Journey

We are excited about the progress at Fairhaven and the opportunities it will provide for our students.
