Pipes and Drums: An Historic Journey to Scotland

In August, boys from the A and B Pipes and Drums Bands in Year 8 to Year 12 embarked on a journey to Scotland to compete in the prestigious World Pipe Band Championships.

This trip was filled with music, competitions, cultural immersion, and unforgettable memories and was a testament to the dedication, talent, and spirit of the Scotch Pipes and Drums community. The students were accompanied by parents, grandparents and staff.

More than just a competition, the trip was an opportunity for our boys to grow, learn and build lifelong memories. From the cultural experiences and performances to the companionship and support from their teachers and families, this journey will remain a cherished chapter in their lives. The teaching team and parents have expressed their immense pride in the boys’ achievements, not just in their musical success, but in the life skills they have developed.

Our boys achieved some of the highest results ever achieved by any Australian school.

A-Band

Third worldwide, the equal highest result ever achieved by an Australian school band. Our A-Band Drum Corps placed second in the world and first in the European Championships, and now hold the title of current European Drum Corps Champions.

B-Band

First worldwide in the Novice B division – an incredible achievement. Scotch is the first Australian school to win this title.

On their return to Melbourne, the group carried with them not only trophies and titles but also the pride of having represented their school and country on the world stage. The Scotch College Pipes and Drums trip to Scotland in 2024 will undoubtedly inspire future generations of musicians at the school and the memories made will be treasured for years to come.
