Chipapa Appeal

Since 2005, the Scotch College community has partnered with World Vision to reconstruct and develop Kapumfi Basic School and Chitulika High School in Zambia. The transformative power of education has been clearly evident in the lives of individual students and whole communities, and is foundational to the prospects of an Africa free from the burden of unnecessary poverty.

Scotch College is now partnering with a community called Chipapa in Zambia. In this community, only 40% of children complete Primary School so working with World Vision to increase literacy in the schools and the community is our first priority. In 2018 the Year 7 and 8 students have raised over $10,000 towards funding a Literacy Program run by World Vision in Chipapa through the 40 Hour Challenge. The program is providing age appropriate reading materials and teacher training. This will mean that students currently in classes as large as 75 can have access to smaller reading groups and readers to practice with. We are very proud of all of the students who have taken on a Challenge to help other children with significantly less resources and opportunities.
