Big Bands typically perform the styles of swing, rock, latin and most contemporary forms of jazz. Most students in these bands are also actively involved in developing the skill of improvisation in practice and performance.
Stage Band is the second most advanced of 4 big bands in the Senior School. The band includes a full saxophone section (of two or more altos, two tenors and a baritone saxophone), four trumpets and four trombones in addition to a rhythm section of piano, string bass, drums, an electric guitar and a percussionist. Admission is by audition in November of each preceding year.

This is the fourth level of the 5 wind bands at Scotch College catering for woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Typically, this ensemble includes musicians with more developed reading and playing skills than those boys in the Intermediate Band. Members are in Years 9, 10 and 11 with the potential inclusion of advanced Year 8 musicians. This ensemble includes approximately 60 members. Admission is extended to all students in years 9-11 with appropriate playing skills.

This is the third level of 5 wind bands at Scotch College. Typically this ensemble includes all woodwind, brass and percussion musicians in Year 8 who have attained the standard required as determined by their instrumental Head of Department. This ensemble has a size of approximately 40 members.

This ensemble has a size of approximately 40-50 members.
